Palestinian positions are hardening before the Maryland peace conference. Ahmed Abdel Rahman, an adviser to the PA President and Fatah spokesman, said categorically in an interview with the Saudi newspaper Oukaz ''that the Palestinians do not intend to make concessions because they have nothing to concede.''

An attempt to overthrow Hassan Nasrallah? According to the Kuwaiti daily A-Siassa, the Hezbollah leader escaped an internal coup attempt led by the opposition that wanted to assume the leadership of the Lebanese Shiite militia and remove Nasrallah as general secretary.

During its raid on Syria in early September, Israel bombed a nuclear facility under construction, according to the New York Times. The newspaper said that this facility was used to store North Korean nuclear fuel.

The Palestinian security forces have shot dead a 22 year old man and a child of 5 in Kalkiliya. The Palestinian policemen fired at the youth this afternoon, after he refused to comply with their orders, and were attacked by the family of the deceased. They again opened fire, killing the child.
