Shin Bet Director Yoram Cohen expressed
reservation regarding the release of 104 security prisoners and said that
"their release will damage security, both in terms of immediate threat to
public safety and in terms of an erosion of deterrence."
Nonetheless,
he noted that entering into negotiations with the Palestinians will have a
positive effect in "calming Judea and Samaria." Cohen handed the
government a list of prisoners divided into three categories: Those who can be
released, those that should not be released and those that should be released
to Gaza or deported. (Elior Levy)
