Since the Shalit deal was completed I have been tracking the reported rearrests of the terrorists released. It seems we have the first arrest of one of the terrorists by the Palestinian Authority.
A woman on Monday appealed to President Mahmoud Abbas to release her son so he can attend his father's funeral. Halmi Jermi, from Balata refugee camp in Nablus, told Ma'an she would not bury her husband without her son.
Two of Halmi's sons were detained by the Palestinian Authority. The PA released Nidal Jermi for three days to attend the funeral but has refused to allow Salah permission to attend, she said.
Palestinian Authority security forces detained Salah Jermi 37 days ago, his brother Kamal told Ma'an. He is held in al-Dhahiriya jail in Hebron.
Salah Jermi spent 10 years in Israeli prisons and was released in an October prisoner swap agreement between Israel and Hamas. His father died on Sunday.
An examination of the list of those released in the first
phase (October) of the Shalit deal reveals no Salah Jermi. However, in the list
of those released in the second phase (December) there is a Saleh Ahmad
Muhammad Jarmi, which is the name provided in Ma’an
News Agency’s Arabic version of the story.
While the exact circumstances surrounding Jarmi's rearrest by the Palestinian Authority are unknown, it is likely that he was arrested in the recent crackdown, which began in Jenin and has since expanded.
In early May the Governor of Jenin died as a result of a heart attack, which occurred shortly after unidentified gunmen attacked his home. The death of the governor came shortly after Amthal Ghannam Fayiz Ghawadrah was killed in a shootout with Palestinian security forces in Jenin. Ghawadrah was part of a gang that was convicted in absentia by a Palestinian court of two murders.
Shortly after the death of the Governor of Jenin, Palestinian security forces launched “the biggest operation” ever in Jenin.
