Furthermore, that declaration recognised Turkish Cypiots and Greek Cypriots as equal partners in the establishment of the Republic. In addition Turkey, along with Greece and the UK were each given the right to intervene if any side attempted to usurp power in the island or change the status quo of Turkish/Greek equality on the sialnd. However, as early as 1963 the islnd was effectively partitioned following a Grrek/Greek Cypriot pusche to overthrow the Turkish Cypriots. This suceeded in a political sense as, from that point onward, there was no further Turkish Cypriot participation in the 'Cyprus' Government, making it illegal and without authority or validity to represent the entire island. Nevertheless, the world overlooked this initial Coup D'Etat and recognised the now wholly Greek Cypriot Government as the Cyprus Government, leaving the Turkish Cypriots isolated politicaly.

Despite Turkey's best efforts the situation remained the same until 1974 when the Greek/Greek Cypriot duo finally overthrew the existing wholly Greek/Greek Cypriot Government with the intention of declaring Enosis (union with Greece). Having stalled any intervention for 11 yars they now felt confident enough to make the final step and to expel the Turkish Cypriots completely.

Turkey then intervened (with full legal validity) and has maintained troops there in defence of the Turkish Cypriot population. Greece similarly maintains mainland trops in the Greek/Greek Cypriot South of Cyprus, but that is ignored. Since that time there have of course been settlers from Turkey, but among those there are included a great many Turkish Cypriots who have returned to the island, having left in the troubles between 63 & 74. What is also conveniently forgotten is that Greek 'settlers' have been arriving into Cyprus since 63 (no doubt also including some Greek Cypriots who previously left). This is in no small part as a result of all Governmental control being weileded by the wholly Greek 'Cyprus' and all aid and money flowing into the Greek Cyprot coffers. As a result 'Cyprus' has far out-performed Greece economicaly and so proved an atractive proposition to any mainland Greeks wishing to try their luck 'abroad'.
So, if the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is illegal, it stands to reason - and by law and the very constitution of Cyprus itself - that so is Cyprus, when represented by the wholly Greek 'Cyprus' Government which Israel and the rest of the world recognises. By the same token, if the 'Cyprus Government' is legal as a representative of the Greek/Greek Cypriot controlled south of the island, then so is that of the Turkish Cypriot North.
As you see, this bears absolutely no relation to the troubles in Israel/Palestine.Taskinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06325601444833601100noreply@blogger.com
